UN Security Council approved a US- led resolution to end war in Gaza. The adopted resolution is a 20 point document forward by the Trump Administration. 13 members voted in favour, none against while Russia and China abstained with objection on the text. The Russian Ambassador objected to ISF. He pointed out that they do not know about the conduct modalities of ISF.

ISF and Transitional Authority

The adopted resolution authorizes an International Stabilization Force (ISF) and Transitional Authority. ISF will take over the Palestine for disarming the Hamas and helping the transitional authority. In case Hamas disagrees with it, ISF will take over the Palestinian territory under control of Israel. It will form a barrier between IDF and Hamas and will secure the borders of Palestine. Hamas disagreed with its disarming. This will create problems on ground when it comes to implementation of the resolution. The peace process will allow full access to humanitarian aid to Palestine. This resolution envisions a disarmed Palestine which would be focusing on prosperity and development.

The Trump Administration is hailing the resolution as a historic step in securing a lasting peace for Palestine.

Pathway to Palestinian Self-Determination

The resolution is received as controversial in Israel as it references to the future possibility of Palestinian Statehood.

The resolution’s text says that “conditions may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood” once the Palestinian Authority has carried out a reform program and Gaza’s redevelopment has advanced.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is under pressure from right-wing members of his government. He said on Sunday that Israel remained opposed to a Palestinian state and pledged to demilitarize Gaza “the easy way or the hard way.”
